Rained Out!

Rained Out!

Despite several attempts over the last two days, the Track Laying crew was forced to beat a wet retreat from repeated downpours! This very fuzzy photo was taken by flashlight late today, as we never really got any broad daylight! As can be seen, the crew had installed enough rail to make the Northeast corner of the Leather Oaks lot when time was hastily called.

The corner approaches.

Before the rain stopped everything, things were going pretty well. The crew had finished bending and fastening one section from the previous day's work, and installed two more sections of rail. Some preliminary bending had been necessary for the last rail section to clear the corner. In fact, the track had been temporarily passed through a gap in the fence while assembly was under way!

Rolling Stock Shelves Constructed

Rolling Stock Shelves Constructed

With outdoors work ruled out and the track laying crew sent home, the carpentry guy happily commenced work on a second set of shelves for stowing the burgeoning inventory of R&R RR rolling stock. The slightly wider area available in the right half of the old Bulk Rubber Gear Storage Shelving allowed an additional space on each of the new shelves. The photo at left shows the two additional shelves ready for cleaning and treatment with polyurethane varnish. The third set, built onto the existing shelf will also be treated, as will those shelves finished earlier in the week. When completed and installed, there will be 39 slots for rolling stock, each around two feet deep.
